It’s OK to ask for a price but understand that Tax Preparation is custom work and that the amount of work required as well as forms to be filed may vary from one taxpayer to the next. Many quoted prices are based on limited forms to be filed and may be higher if more forms are required.
Interview your Tax Preparer. Choose one in whom you will have the confidence for quality work. Ask about his tax preparation experience and qualifications. Ask if he will be available for after filing issues. Lastly, ask if he signs your tax return.
Save all mail or correspondence in a single location (e.g. box, file folder) associated with your income and expenses so that all items are certain to be included in your tax return. If you suspect that it could be included in your tax return, save it for your preparer to review.
